In modern aircraft and military equipment, system controls that once were operated manually via cables and hydraulics are becoming replaced by digital electronics. In the future, commercial aircraft will have primarily electronic systems that stabilize the aircraft and will have computer-assisted controls for all functions that allow the plane to stay in the air. The susceptibility of flight-critical systems to external radio frequency interference is a real concern and as a result, High Intensity Radiated Fields testing (HIRF) will play an important role in the future of aviation. At Ingenium Testing, we have invested in facilities and equipment to conduct HIRF testing to meet the needs of the aerospace industry and have capabilities that are in excess of 200 V/m up to 40 GHz. HIRF Testing available Fall 2008.

High Intensity Radiated Fields (HIRF) Testing Specifications

Ingenium Testing has installed high performance power amplifiers and high gain antennas to meet the requirements set forth by MIL-STD-461 E/F RS103, RTCA DO 160 E/F Section 20, and other aerospace specifications including:

  • 2,200W – 10kHz to 100MHz

  • 2,000W – 100MHz to 1,000MHz

  • 200+W – 1GHz to 18GHz

  • 40W – 18GHz to 40GHz

  • Minimum of 200V/m from 10kHz to 40GHz in a Semi-Anechoic Rooms

  • Much Higher Levels for Reverberation Room Testing
