In modern aircraft and military equipment, system controls that once were operated manually via cables and hydraulics are becoming replaced by digital electronics. In the future, commercial aircraft will have primarily electronic systems that stabilize the aircraft and will have computer-assisted controls for all functions that allow the plane to stay in the air. The susceptibility of flight-critical systems to external radio frequency interference is a real concern and as a result, High Intensity Radiated Fields testing (HIRF) will play an important role in the future of aviation. At Ingenium Testing, we have the capability to conduct HIRF testing that meets the needs of the aerospace industry in excess of 200 V/m up to 40 GHz, and are able to perform this service in our laboratory as well as mobile, on-site at your location.

Announcing Expanded Capabilities for HIRF Testing

Ingenium Testing is capable of performing HIRF testing that meets the latest RTCA DO-160 Category G levels.  We understand the need to protect the electrical and electronic systems in commercial and military aircraft, vehicles, and naval vessels.  Below are some of the reasons attributable to such needs:

  • A greater dependence on electrical and electronic systems to perform functions required for continued safe flight and landing of aircraft

  • The reduced electromagnetic shielding afforded by some composite materials used in various applications and designs

  • An increased susceptibility of electrical and electronic systems to HIRF due to increased data BUS or processor operating speeds, higher-density integrated circuits and cards, and a general greater sensitivity of electronic equipment

  • An expanded frequency range usage, especially above the 1 gigahertz (GHz) level

This expanded HIRF capability places Ingenium Testing in a very limited group of independent test laboratories that are able to offer RTCA DO-160 Category G HIRF testing.  In addition, we are one of only two existing independent laboratories that can conduct HIRF off-site testing at our customer's facility.
